10 things we'd like to see in the Starcraft 2 Demo
Yes, yes, I know I’m getting a bit ahead of time with this and although Blizzard didn’t mention anything about an upcoming Starcraft 2 demo, they didn’t specify they WON’T be releasing one either! So let’s hope that we’ll be getting a small slice of the action through a Starcraft 2 demo a few months before the actual game releases, because I know that you’re dying to get your grubby little hands on those new units (like me and any other sane Starcraft fan, obviously). And while we’re hoping for stuff, here’s what I’d like to see in the Starcraft 2 demo, if one is ever going to be released:
Old pals
I’m actually quite curious to see how the main characters from Starcraft evolved in the sequel, so controlling Kerrigan, Raynor or Zeratul in the demo mission would be lovely.
No drama
A lot of games tend to showcase the best of what they offer in the demo. Although that’s understandable from a marketing point of view, I wouldn’t want to spoil one of the best missions in the game on the Starcraft 2 demo. Just give me an appetizer to work with coz I don’t want the main course just yet.
New units
Well releasing the Starcraft 2 demo and only allowing us to play with the old (possibly revamped, but still old) units would be pretty lame. I don’t want the whole pack of new units to tinker with, but one tripod would be nice please. Thank you!
Cinematics
Usually, demos simply throw you in the middle of the game and there’s not a lot of emphasis on the story, the what, the who and the where. That’s understandable, because after all, you’ve got the demo to test out the gameplay and you’re not expecting it to be too immersive. Still, for old time’s sake, a Blizzard quality cinematic would make me drool so hard…
All 3 races
I don’t see why this couldn’t be implemented in the Demo, so it’s on my wishlist. I just want one map, one mission but playable with all 3 races. Is that too much to ask?
Surprise, surprise
Did you see the initial gameplay trailer they unveiled when Starcraft 2 was first mentioned? The one with the massive fight ended by a couple of nukes and those cute zerglings forming a “GG” sign. Well that’s what I call a pleasant surprise and I was actually impressed by it. If Blizzard wants the Starcraft 2 demo to stand out and market itself virally, in my opinion the best way to do so is by providing us with another one of those little funny stunts.
A final release date!
Although it’s not a demo’s job to provide this kind of info, it would be nice if they could give us a fixed date for when the full game is bound to hit the market. This would make the Starcraft 2 demo much more entertaining knowing the full-game was just around the corner.
Complete control over the engine
Don’t you just hate it when you grab a demo of a new shooter and your graphic options are limited to what the developers believed would be enough for a simple demo? Hopefully the Starcraft 2 demo will be completely scalable, so we can configure our PCs for maximum eye-candy prior to the game hitting the stores.
Critters
I haven’t really seen any critters in the gameplay movies nor have I heard a Blizzard official mentioning them, but I sure hope they’re still in the game. I miss fun-killing one on my way to the enemy’s base :).
Polished AI
I am not too fussed about whether the graphics will be as sharp in the Starcraft 2 demo as they’re going to be in the final version of the game. However, I do hope the AI is brought to a relatively high standard in the demo. Otherwise, if the units act stupidly, the new base of players that didn’t go through the original Starcraft and Broodwar Expansion will be turned away from the game (surprisingly, I found that newer gamers tend to get turned off more by technical details as opposed to graphical ones).

i'm going to have to agree with a few of you. Yes i am a huge starcraft fan and have a book and wallpaper on my cellphone and computer but i'm not looking too forward to this cartoonish stuff
Would like to see a feature
Would like to see a feature that allows you to "freeze" your screen when holding down a button like Shift such that you can micro your units without the screen flying all over the map.
I agree with many players
I agree with many players here. So Starcraft II will come in 3 different expansions. So first one is Wings of liberty(terran),Heart of the Swarm(zerg) and final one is Legacy of the Void(protoss). They will include 3 different storylines(90-98 missions).The release date (at first) was March 2010. But they made some change at Blizzcon 2009. So the final release date is unknown , but they have some work to do with Diablo 3, WoW 3 and if the rumors are true WARCRAFT IV. So the first thing in the full game (Starcraft II) should be bigger unit SELECTION(they said it could be infinit, but it's not sure. The demo videos "told" us the max units selected would be 48). Are you saying each campaign has around 90-98 missions? and i truly don't think they will make us pay money for 3 different games i want one game with all campaigns and all the races and yes your release date stated is right around when it comes out if they divide into three different games how is the money for each one gonna be divided like 15 dollars for each?

30-33ish missions each campaign. And yes Blizz is greedy, they say Terran campaign is the base game and Zerg/Protoss campaign are considered "X-pacs" Just like buying SC then goin and getting SC:BW. I have a friend of a friend who's a freelance programmer for Blizz, SC2 will be released spring/summer 2010, that is if everything goes according to schedule =/ I'ma go be an R-tard and play SC for a few weeks and maybe jump on WoW, grind another 10k gold and level a few more 80's =/ GOODBYE PPLZ!!!!!!!

Starcraft 2 release date leaked from amazon.com and it said it will be released on October 1. So maybe blizzard won't release the demo but they will release the full game or maybe amazon lied to people because i don't see the release date any more. Korea :D can't wait till they get Starcraft II. The "DEMO" from torrent sites are FAKE. People just put "Leaked-Starcraft II Cracked" and everyone complain about that torrent because it is fake. unless that person beta tested the game from Blizzard and maybe hacked the test computer and put everything in the flash drive. I hope this help you or maybe it won't and don't come whining to me if I'm wrong.

i think the game will come out mid 2010. i mean, it took blizzard 2 years to mention anything about a beta since the game was announced, and beta will start end (even more end then now) this year. blizzard is just taking such a long time (though that will mean it'll be a well polished game).

The game isn't finished yet. They haven't even started a demo for the public and no demo has been leaked onto the internet. I hate to dissapoint you but it will be several months at least until the game is finished. I bet august 3rd sounds like a good demo release date (a random guess) and the full game probably late 2009 early 2010. (also a random guess) If you wanted it free downloaded illegally off the internet well then you won't get it ever...(you actually might but blizzard is careful about these things)

I just hope the AI is able to encounter turtles. I hate that you can just build 10 sunken colonies and sit there and hide behind a wall of spikes coming up from the ground to save you through the game. I also want to see other means of getting resources like in CnC Generals. I wasn't too fond of the 3 attacks each ai did and the game was done. I don't want to have 10-20 minute starcraft games. I wan't starcraft games that have 1-4 HOURS of gameplay to mix and match your strategies. That was the downside of all blizzard rts types. Once main resources were used up, game over, AI doesn't do anything but sit there.
