Who else wants to watch some Starcraft 2 Trailers?

Ahh the Good ol' Days

I remember back in 2007 when Blizzard unveiled their upcoming titles how I rushed to their site to see what I heard would be the first Starcraft 2 trailer ever released. I read the news on a popular gaming website and man, that link I clicked wasn’t loading fast enough. I knew I was in for a visual treat, because Blizzard always had its way with breathtaking cinematics…and I was pretty sure they wouldn’t make an exception for the Starcraft 2 trailer either.

Official Trailer 1

Tychus Findlay

Admittedly, the initial trailer was a bit confusing. I had no idea who the huge marine getting his armor on was, what he was doing (well I knew he was a Terran marine, d’oh) or what was his role in the plot line. I later found out that his name is Tychus Findlay and he’s a tough merc associated with Jim Raynor’s guns for hire force (you can see Jim Raynor and Tychus Findlay having a dialogue in the latest Starcraft 2 trailer:

One thing I found really weird about the initial Starcraft 2 trailer is how they focused on Tychus Findlay as he would be the main character of the game. Now the original Starcraft didn’t really have a “main character”, although Jim Raynor and Kerrigan probably stood up more than the other characters (and maybe Zeratul, but the Protoss aren’t the race to stand out of the crowd that much anyway).

Old vs. New

This has lead to speculations that Tychus Findlay will be in the center of the main plot, not only throughout the Terran campaign, but throughout the entire game. While I’m not ruling this possibility out, he’s going to have some tough competition being main character, because comebacks from Jim Raynor, Kerrigan, Arcturus Mengsk or Zeratul are going to be pretty big for the fans and most of the people playing Starcraft 2 will have already picked their favorites.

Gorgeous 3D Graphics

On the latest Starcraft 2 trailer, we could witness some gorgeous 3D graphics built in the intermission briefings. The graphics are eye candy and it’s really amazing what Blizzard managed to make out of their cartoony style, combined with a high polygon engine. The trailer feels like you’re in an RPG game, with dialogues where you can pick options, plots, sub-plots, secondary characters and of course the oh-so-beloved Blizzard trademark drama.

Gameplay over Cinematics

While the Starcraft 2 trailers involving cinematics from the game are drool material, I really hope the next one they release will be a zerg gameplay one.

Early Unit Roundups

Trailer Roundup

The Terran and Protoss ones were immensely informative and seeing the new units in action in these Starcraft 2 gameplay trailers was a treat. With the Zerg section of the official Starcraft 2 site still in the works, it’s hard to say when the first dedicated zerg Starcraft 2 trailer will be released. Until that day comes, feast your eyes on these:
