What Starcraft 2 Fans Ought to Know About the Release Date
Amazon leak
Not sure what to make of this... but have a look at this:

I doubt there was a game I ever anticipated as much as Starcraft 2, honestly. And as if the wound wasn’t painful enough, Blizzard officials are constantly dropping buckets of salt on it by telling us that the Starcraft 2 release date cannot be revealed yet. Even more annoying is how they address the issue: “the Starcraft 2 release date will be announced when the game is nearing completion”…nice.
But I’m not here to rant, I’m here to speculate on the subject and try to figure out when the Starcraft 2 release date is due. Here are a couple of clues worth taking into account whilst we try to figure out when the game should be hitting the store shelves:
Engine
Starcraft 2’s completely revamped engine looks almost complete from what we could see in the official Starcraft 2 trailer and in available gameplay movies. The engine is on par with what other top notch strategy games offer these days, but it still resembles the cartooney feel of the original Starcraft and well, of most of Blizzard’s games. As with all things under construction, it needs a bit of polishing from what we could see and possibly some additional features to make it fully DirectX 10 compatible. Still, of the elements that could negatively affect the Starcraft 2 release date, the engine is the least of our problems.
Content
This is where the big problem lies. Blizzard in general and the original Starcraft and its expansion to be more specific, have always had a penchant for good story telling. I’m guessing that creating quality content for the game is the hardest part and the one Blizzard will focus on mostly. This is the worst factor, because we can’t estimate how much they have ready and how much content they’re planning to build before the Starcraft 2 release date is unveiled.
Beta Testing
No game comes out of the Blizzard labs without the proper beta testing. You know, the whole “if it ain’t quality, we’re not pushing it on the market” paradigm. Usually, beta testing for a Blizzard game can range between 1 and 4 months, including alpha testing (“friends and family” as they like to call it in the game industry). I doubt they’ll waste too much time on this however, since other strategy games are already in the making and promise to be big hits. This could overshadow the buzz created by the Starcraft 2 release, so beta testing is probably going to be as short as they can afford it.
Timeframe
The month of the year that they finish actually developing the game is extremely important. If they manage to finish Starcraft 2 around September and spend 2 months beta testing it and setting up the Battle.net servers for the incoming flux of players, Starcraft 2’s release date will fall straight around the winter holidays, where it’s a well known fact that sales go boom-boom. If they’re planning on releasing Starcraft 2 this year, our best bet is that they’ll do it around that time.
It's SC1.5 and there is no
It's SC1.5 and there is no way any real gamer can argue that. The story is cheesy, predictable, and has no depth; with the exception of the very end, which just ended up making it feel incomplete.
If you work on a game for 10 flipping years you better deliver a mind blowing over the top masterpiece, not a prettier upgrade to the original.
1. I don't remotely understand why you can unlock some fairly cool upgrades during the campaign, and then not be able to use them in head to head matches, be it against the AI or real people.
2. No LAN support. Those of you who say this is no big deal simply do not understand what it means to those that love it.
3. The campaign was woefully short; so short that I almost puked after having to spend $60 on this game.
4. The fact that you get to play the main characters a few times during the game is nothing short of ASININE. Let us play them every level, let us build them up. Instead of doing this Blizzard merely hinted at how good the campaign could have been by hiding it's best mission, the secret mission. Which is just bizarre.
5. The price tag is a joke. The game being split into 3 separate games for the same amount of money is even worse.
6. The head to head is quite literally SC 1.5. YEAH......Great job on the new graphics and a few new units! Again 10 years+ for that. Think about it.
7. The campaign was ridiculously short and easy, even on hard.
8. Battle.net! BATTLE.NET!!!!!!!
9. The head to head battles have no build up. It's rush, rush, rush. Which is indicative of today's "we want it NOW!" generation. Age of empire 2 is far superior in it's head to head setup and or match play.
10. I'll stop here but there are many more negatives I could list. I have to end with what is making me never want to touch another Blizzard game at this point. That would be all the UBER FAN BOYS! Listen guys if you like a game cool, but don't be so blinded by your fandom for one company to let it get in the way of fairly judging a game, and also turn you into a Blizzard zombie spokes person if any one dares come up with logical and fair points about how a game (10 YEARS in the making) fell horribly short in the "hey we took ten years to make it, told you to !@#$ off when asked when it would be out, then gave you a new upgrade from the original" category.
It took 12 years but blizz
It took 12 years but blizz finally got around to releasing this game. I wonder how long people had to wait in line at midnight.

7/27/2010. See you all
7/27/2010. See you all online
What is there to say. $60
What is there to say. $60 per game times three parts for a whopping $180 dollars. No game is worth that. I remember when games like Total Annihilation (Better than Starcraft 1) by Cavedog came out with nice games that had open editors and you could create tons of arm and core dudes. Here is Starcraft 2, lame as hell, limited in thought, no lan allowed, expensive, map editor is supposed to take a genius to use, and a possibility of being required to use Battlenet to even play it. Gamers mad need to be on Battlenet to even get certain features of the game that will not come with the stand alone product. Bite me.
I will never buy any games from Blizzard or their new ally Activision. I will pirate your games and figure ways around your stupid system. You will learn that GREED is not the key to gaming. Driving out your competition until your the only one left is why we are left with crap. Take Microsoft for example.
World save your money, do not preorder, and send these clowns at Blizzard and Activision a clear message. Follow the days of old school games like Total Annihilation that treated games with respect, and boycott Blizzard.
NO LAN, BATTLENET REQUIRED!
$180 FOR ONLY PART OF GAME!
YOU SUCK BLIZZARD & ACTIVISION!
HOPE YOU GUYS GO BELLY UP!
im so over this stupid game
im so over this stupid game now. Beta has been extended, what a suprise ill be shocked if they even manage to release it before 2011. No LAN no cross region play, no bnet chat rooms, so what the hell am i paying for? fuk this game, there is plenty more to look forward to this year from publishers that actually have their act together and pump out great games (COD Black Opps, Halo Reach, Crysis 2 etc).
Blizzard can go suk a dik.

Try being a Gran Turismo 5
Try being a Gran Turismo 5 fan...this is nothing.
I have been a starcraft fan
I have been a starcraft fan for YEARS now. Unfortunately the original starcraft games are so old I get errors when I try to play them on the new iMac I got, so that's a shame.
StarCraft 2, simply put, is a amazing game. The graphics, 3D visuals, and other little perks just make the dynamics and mechanics of the game look more realistic and more enjoyable. On top of all that, i got sick of owning with 200 marines. I hardly believe you'll be able to do such a thing in SC2, as the classes are going to be more balanced and more strategy will be involved instead of always going with the "million man march."
It's 2010 and I'm really scratching my head why they won't give us a release date. I am keeping up to date with the battle reports and it makes the game look so much better, but ontop of all that i am trying not to think about it too much because that will just make me lose interest.
When it comes out, i'll get it.
any 1 know when starcraft 2
any 1 know when starcraft 2 is reless
in three days gamestop ill
in three days gamestop ill ready told me that it well be on the truck at monday night they well have it this time
Hey i have to say Blizzard
Hey i have to say Blizzard Rule's - yes my spelling will suck but bare with me.
I've been playing StarCraft on LAN's and Net but where i stay to play online cost a arm and leg "litterly" i dont want to go online every time to play a game i bought with my hard earned cash. Also if me and my friend bought the game we dont want to sit and play the game with people who have no live and sits infront of their pc's 24/7 playing one game (Go's for all the COD freaks)
Thus comes to my point yes ill buy StarCraft2 and i know what ever im gonna say may make no sense at all but i will have to get a crack or patch for my origanla version - why becouse internet cost money in my country and yes im too poor to aford a decent line to play this tipe of game online. So unless blizzard think of having a server in our country yes me and about 1000 other people will have to use cracks and pirated versions to play this game.
Thanks Blizzard ya fucking creeding bastards - hope ya all die in a car accident for not thinking about the poor.
Retard, get a life.
Retard, get a life.
Get a Job you Whiney Fuck
Get a Job you Whiney Fuck
did you know blizzard have
did you know blizzard have hired lizzards to program starcraft 2 so they could get the slowest programing acheivement award
did you know that you're a
did you know that you're a dumbfuck without any sense of humor
activision/blizzard wont go
activision/blizzard wont go bankrupt. first of all they have WoW which is huge, 10 million persons x 15 dollars per month. secondly their CEO of activision is only concerned about money, if it wont net hundreds of millions they wont develop it. obviously that is why the game will come in 3 parts for more money, that is why the may make a pay to play for b.net. don't get me wrong it's good that their taking their time for quality, but it has turned into a money grubbing company. none of the original staff of blizzard that worked on the 3 greats (starcraft, craft, diablo) work their anymore. i played Sc2 beta and can say their mostly playing off of nostalgia from the previous games. just wait several years after sc2, and diablo 2 come out. they'll be making shity rip offs of other bought out games to make their millions. making money isn't bad, but once they elevate it to the level of Electronic arts, i will have lost the respect.
At least half of WoW's "11
At least half of WoW's "11 million subscribers" are from Asian countries that pay cheap by-the-hour rates, NOT a monthly fee. Just sayin'.
I agree that Craptivision seriously effed up our beloved Blizzard with wallet draining schemes. 3 parts for SC2 and the first costs $60???? Since when do PC games cost $60???? Ever since Craptivision's wallet-raping ideals started getting shoved down Blizzard's throat.
I for one am sick of Activision running good franchises and games into the ground just to painfully squeeze every penny possible out of people and as such won't be buying SC2 at launch, or any other game published by them for that matter.
R.I.P. The Blizzard I once loved.
NEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDD
NEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDDSSSSSSSSS
ROFLMAO :D :D
ROFLMAO :D :D
I have mixed feelings on SC2
I have mixed feelings on SC2 and Blizzard as a company. No one can argue that they put out a completely epic product every time that is well polished and put together. Combine that with the fact that they continue to patch, balance, upgrade, and support the product throughout it's life cycle (mostly) and you get a company that takes a lot of pride and puts a lot of hard work into all of their titles.
However...
Blizzard's inability to be efficient and combine quality with an acceptable development time is terrible. I think that Blizzard either drags it's feet too much (hence the reason every company that they worked on "Starcraft: Ghost" with bailed on them, being sick of the way Blizzard took their sweet time), or they purposely delay their products for a multitude of stupid reasons. Don't get me wrong, I am well aware of the fact that most of the people (including me) WILL go and buy SC2 when it comes out, despite how much we bitch about it taking too long (and Blizzard is all too aware of this).
What drives me insane is that, product sales asside, think of how much money Blizz has made off of 5+ years of World of Warcraft. Anyone playing that game knows their subscription price has not dropped. With millions of players paying 15 bucks a month, Blizzard is raking in a lot of bread. I therefore do not understand why they simply do not hire more developers, designers, and testers to help out with some of the larger tasks in the development cycle, and help speed up the process of getting a quality game out. Or perhaps keeping their damn mouths shut about an upcoming title until they are within 12 months of releasing it? Either option works for me. I understand this is all debatable. But that's my 2 cents. Either way, like a sucker, I will continue to purchase Blizzard products as long as they continue to be great...despite the fact that Blizzard sucks ass and can go to hell for being so damn slow to release these games.
"Fuck you Blizzard, I love you!" Yea, for most of us it's pretty much like that.
P.S. - The inability of many of you to write using proper spelling, sentence structure, and grammar is staggering. I think you should probably spend less time playing video games and more time learning the English language.
(What drives me insane is
(What drives me insane is that, product sales asside)

Sigh, I've been waiting and waiting. Now it's kind of pointless to get the game cuz of the all the responsibilities I have now.
Sc2 looks and plays 2 much
Sc2 looks and plays 2 much like sc1. Play terrans, make many marines, get cloacked air fighters maybe nuke. U r then unstopable AGAIN! By the time blizzard decides 2 release this hardware and software and other games will long suplant this drivel. Ill buy it but Not at full price. Same w d3. 6years +> is absurd a time to take. U have 2 have product 2 remain competitive not empty promises. Other companies games r just as good and dont take a decade. What is wrong w bli$$ard?
I understand what people
I understand what people mean by saying they've lost interest or not going to bother getting it anymore.
I feel the same way, mainly because of how long it's taken. And STILL not even a release date issued.
Why I am here? I was browsing up & coming games and wanted to see if SC2 has a release date yet. Then I googled "star craft 2 forgotten" to see if anyone else is thinking like me.
I'm still interested in the game, more so to see what it's fate will be, BUT, I honestly don't plan on buying it or care for it anymore lol
I used to be an avid PC gamer, but I play mainly my PS3 these days.
Starcraft 2 has been so long in development, the graphics and physics of the game that looked impressive in the video I saw 5years ago(or however long ago it was), don't look so great anymore.
The game is taking so long, and with all the information about the game being bleed out and having so much time to absorb it all, it loses that surprise [oh I can't wait to see what happens or how it plays out] feel. I mean by the time the game is released, you'll know all the units, what they do, how they are most effective, you'll know the story, etc etc.
That feeling you get when you play a new game, a good new game... that feeling won't be there for most people.
It certainly has lost a lot of appeal.
You're not alone, I played
You're not alone, I played SC for years. It something that me and my friends would do when we got bored. I loved the game and it was fun, hell we still play it occasionally now.
I was looking forward to 2 games to come out at the beginning of this year, starcraft 2 and diablo 3.
I got the beta for SC2... and i wasn't that impressed. For a game to be in development for so long i was hoping to be wow'ed. The fact that its going to be at least $60, and to play with my friends i have to go through battle net makes it seem like a good game to pass on.
Maybe i'll pirate it later on, and if I like it i'll buy it. However SC2 has slipped into the "don't give a damn" category for me and has been replaced by final fantasy 14.
Maybe if i'm lucky diablo 3 won't suck. But lately blizzard seems to be trying to ruin games.
ur funny. been in
ur funny. been in development for 2 years, boo hoo.
7 years actually, since
7 years actually, since 2003. It wasn't announced in public until 2007.
I find it hilarious everyone
I find it hilarious everyone saying "ive lost interest in SC2 because of the battle reports being posted so early" or "not interested anymore because it has taken so long"
If you weren't still interested, guess where you wouldn't be? On this web page. We all know half of you who "lost interest" already pre-ordered the game, and the other half of you will buy it the day it comes out. Am I happy its taken this long? To an extent, yes and no. Yes because it means the game will be perfect. If they released it now you would probably be pissed off about it and then really lose interest. That is why there is a beta, to fix all the minor bugs and unbalanced game play. Obviously I am not happy its taken so long but to a much larger extent, I am happy they are not rushing it. If you guys worked for Blizzard you would half arse it just to bring it to market soon. I would rather wait 2 more years for a high quality game then have them dump some crap into the market.
that was 2 years ago... and
that was 2 years ago...
and still waiting
This game sucks royal ass
This game sucks royal ass and so did the first starcraft and warcraft series.
Its all crap from blizzard and the really insanely dumb idear that was once called world of war craft with its pay to play bull shit and crappy graphics at max detail.
I for one only liked the Diablo Series from blizzard and if it comes to MMo's I wont play any that costs money and if it comes to strategy I am sticking with a real strategy game C&C or Supreme commander.
Star Craft was the best RTS
Star Craft was the best RTS for a long time, but at the same time I'm an avid company of heroes player so I don't know if I will switch it up
I think you have qualified
I think you have qualified for official stupidity.
WTF Seriesly C&C or Supreme
WTF Seriesly C&C or Supreme commander LOLZ shows you don't know wtf your talking about and you seriesly have no micro at all with them games.
I love how people say they
I love how people say they are done with SC2 and that they lost interest years ago yet they are posting about it on an online forum that they searched to discuss SC2. haha.
Hey,
Hey, look....

and....
http://pc.ign.com/articles/106/1068358p1.html
soooo..... it might actually come out this year....
Is this where everyone screams in panic and runs out to reserve a copy at their nearest game store, as if the plague was coming back and SCII was the vacine?
Man 2 years ago the release
Man 2 years ago the release date was around Christmas. Its now 2010 and they STILL dont have an exact date. To make things worse they are releasing it as THREE different games. they need to release it and fast. I dont believe all the 2012 crap and that just makes me want it done FASTER. they have another expansion for WOW coming out and they dont even have Lich king done yet they need to put all THAT crap on hold an FINISH this game.
Being realistic i honestly
Being realistic i honestly dont think it will be out in 2010 .
And i hate the idea of it being split into 3 parts(what a con)
I will be getting Supreme Comander 2 instead, i think it looks very cool.(SupCom 1 was great)
And it is out in March unlike SC2.
For me it has been put back too many times , (Remember Dukenukem forever).
I think that Blizzard is
I think that Blizzard is purposely stalling the release of Starcraft 2 due to release of Cataclysm at the end of the year for WoW. Think about it.....How many fans of SC play WoW? Probably a lot. If they release SC2 prior to Cataclysm it is possible that they will not gain the type of revenue they have received in their past expansion release of the Lich King. Especially since SC2 will be free to play via Battle.net its possible a lot of WoW accounts will be going out the window. Many players have been long awaiting the release of SC2 and will be sucked up into it once it finally does come out, Not to mention Diablo 3. I know that I am a die hard fan of all blizzard's products but I know it will be more than likely with the release of SC2 and Diablo 3 that I will not dedicate my time to WoW as much as I have been if any at all. WoW's been around over 5yrs now and the engine and gameplay are getting very repetetive just like D1 and D2 with the way the game was chaptered. You can only do the content so many times...
